Sixteenth Sunday of the Year (Cycle A) 20th July 2008

Based on Gospel Matthew 13. 24 to 43

Heaven’s likened to a sower, planting good seed in a field.

Expecting at the harvest, that there would be great yield.

But an enemy secreted, darnel with the wheat.

So when the crop was growing, not all was good to eat.

The servant asked the Master, should the weed be pulled right out.

But the answer was forthcoming, that showed there was no doubt.

For if the weed was taken, the wheat would be lost too.

Leave the wheat to ripen, then harvest both they’d do.

Destruction of the bad crop, will stop it causing harm.

The wheat would then be stowed, in the good Lord’s barn.

Puzzled now disciples, asked the meaning be unfurled.

Jesus was the sower, the field it was the world.

His subjects were the good seed, darnel by evil grown,

planted by the devil, to make the world his own.

The reapers were the angels, the harvest this world’s end,

when all the evil doers, they’ll to the furnace send.

Then will be much weeping, and grinding of the teeth.

But the virtuous will shine brightly, not for them that fate of grief.

Thank you dearest Jesus, for the promise that you’ve made.

A place in Your own Kingdom, Your death the price that’s paid.

We have to live alongside, those who evil do.

But You would give them heaven, if they’d only turn to You.

We must strive to treat each other, with love and not with hate.

Seek forgiveness for our sins, before it is too late.  Cjs.

AD or PC

In these years of Our Lord, some Authorities have decreed

that certain courses of action, cannot be agreed!

Is it Politically Correct, that’s the terminology.

No matter the way of Christ, if conflicting it does be!

Recently a friend awaiting, the results of examination,

received an official  letter, ‘you’ve achieved’ the notification.

But reading further on, of exactly what was in doubt!

Not allowed to state ‘you failed,’  ‘twas not PC to spell it out!

Phoned she for an answer, yes indeed she’d truly passed!

But she never would have guessed, unless the College she had asked!

One question on the paper, posed.. “there’s an object on the stairs.”

Do you remove or leave it, risking disapproving glares?

The PC answer was leave it!   The caretaker must be found!

But possibly by then, someone could 've tumbled to the ground!

Safety is paramount, so ‘twould be dependent on the size,

and using common sense, was both sensible and wise.

Jesus tells us always, to care for everyone,

for what we do for others, unto Him we have this done!

Removing obstacles in our path, thus heeding the safety rule,

shows care for all the children and others in the school.

We owe Christ our allegiance, must do things in His way,

and stand up for His teachings, whatever ‘Man- Made’ decisions do say. Cjs

THE KNIGHTS OF ST COLUMBA

WHO ARE WE?

We are an organised body of Catholic men who are joined as a fraternity, giving total loyalty to the Holy See and working together helping those less fortunate than ourselves.  We are a way of life, in Charity, Unity and Fraternity, working through our local groups who are present in most towns throughout the United Kingdom.

We work both as individual local groups and together on a national scale, while at the same time linking with other Orders in the International Alliance of Catholic Knights.

SIX REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN THE KNIGHTS

It will help with the work that you have always wanted to do. It will increase your spiritual life.

It will increase your circle of friends. It will mean that the Knights’ voice, speaking as one, will be your voice.  It is a “way of life” that will suit you. It will help you to do something good for God.

Are you interested in?  The Family?  The Sanctity of Human Life? Social Justice? Homelessness?

Justice and Peace? The Third World? Would you like to be Involved in? Family social activities?

A wider circle of like-minded friends? Local and National charitable events?

Would you like to be? Part of a National as well as a Local Organisation ?

Involved in things that interest you?  Be one in Charity, Unity and Fraternity with your friends?

Then be a Knight of St Columba.

St Anthony’s Parish hope to form a Knights of St Columba group in the future.  More details will follow  in future newsletters.

Prejudice has always existed!  “Plus ça Change…”

“The world is passing through troubled times.    The young people of today think of nothing but themselves.  They have no reverence for parents or old age.  They are impatient of all restraint.  They talk as if they alone knew everything and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them.  As for girls, they are forward, immodest and unwomanly in speech, behaviour & dress.”   When written?  Peter the Hermit 1274 AD
